2024
Jasper Fire Equine Evac
During the 2024 Jasper wildfire, Hinton's River Valley Agricultural Society, with help from Hinton Search and Rescue, assisted in the evacuation of approximately 80 horses from Jasper National Park, including those at the Jasper Park Lodge and Pyramid Lake Stables.
Half of the rescue volunteers went to Jasper Park Lodge while the other half went to Pyramid Lake. Cruden said the entire operation went relatively smoothly, and they got the horses caught, haltered, in the trailers and back on the road before conditions worsened. “At the time, the fire was kind of smouldering."
2024
Round Pen Construction
Numerous hours of volunteer work were dedicated to constructing and assembling this round pen before the onset of winter frost. The efforts included leveling the ground, installing posts, hanging rails, erecting the skirting, and laying down and leveling the new gravel.
Thank you to Caylor Contracting, Hall-E Wood Construction, McStrong Safety Services, Papa G Trucking Ltd, Northland Maintenance, West Central Contracting Ltd, Vista Mine, West Ridge Sand & Gravel, Hintob Home Hardware, David Tocher and Laccyn Contracting for their generosity!
We also want to note that this project would not have been possible without the 2024 Town of Hinton Community Grant Program!

2024-2025
Updating Bleachers
In 2024 it was noted there were multiple sets of older wooden bleachers that needed replacement. In early 2025 we were able to order a set of new HiHog bleachers and thanks to volunteers, have them ready for the 2025 River Valley Round-Up
2026
New Offloading Chute
We are incredibly grateful to Prairie Creek Ranch for the generous donation of this beautiful new offloading chute to our facility. This was a very special opportunity offered to us, and one we were truly honoured to accept.
With this addition, our grounds will now have 2 livestock offloading chutes available on the property, a major upgrade for both functionality and safety. This new chute will become the main stock offloading chute at the rodeo grounds, while our original wooden chute will be refurbished and refinished to live permanently at the emergency livestock holding pens that were built last year. Having a dedicated chute at the emergency holding area will help provide a safe and efficient way to unload livestock in the event of an evacuation or emergency situation.
Projects like this are only possible because of the support, generosity, and community spirit of those willing to step up and help improve our facilities for everyone. Thank you again to Prairie Creek Ranch and to everyone who contributed their time, equipment, and hard work to bring this project together.
We are extremely proud to continue building resources that better serve our agricultural community for years to come.
